[Busan] Retro Izakaya Vibes in Gwangalli –Beers, Yaki Soba & Chaos at “Ganppajin-sae”(간빠진새)

I wasn’t planning to stop.
Just walking the alleys behind Gwangalli Beach, looking for somewhere chill — but then I heard it.

Laughter. Lots of it. Shouting. Clinking glasses.
Even a block away from the ocean, this place was packed.
A faded Sapporo sign leaned against the wall like it had been there for 20 years. Stickers everywhere. Neon buzzing. I stopped in front of the door and thought:
Yup, this is it.

🍻 What’s in a Name?

It’s called Ganppajin-sae — a play on the Japanese phrase kanpai jinsei (cheers to life), twisted into Korean, half as a joke, half as a vibe.

From the outside, it looks like an izakaya someone ripped straight out of a Tokyo side street: old shutters, old bricks, old stories. Inside?
Straight-up chaos.

Everyone’s standing, beer in hand, yelling across the room like it’s a reunion. Music’s loud, the kitchen’s louder, and the staff? They’re yelling too — in a good way.

🍺 First Things First — The Sapporo

₩8,900. Poured cold. Beer
Served in a thin-rimmed glass that felt like it mattered.

The guy behind the counter handed it over and said,

“Drink now. The foam’s at its best.”

So I did.
And honestly? It was perfect. Not craft. Not trendy. Just really, really good beer, served by someone who gives a damn.

🍜 Let’s Talk Food — Yaki Soba That Hits Right

I grabbed the Meat-Loaded Yaki Soba (₩9,900).
Big portion. Thick noodles. Saucey in the best way — sweet, salty, with dancing bonito flakes on top that made me weirdly happy.

And that red pickled ginger on the side? Smart move. Cleans your palate between bites so you don’t tap out too early.

🧃 This Place Is Loud — Embrace It

If you're looking for peace and minimalist design and quiet jazz in the background, look elsewhere.
This place is for people who want to stand, drink, laugh, shout, and let the day go.

It’s not for everyone — if you’re introverted or easily overwhelmed, this might not be your scene.
But if you’ve had a long day and just want a cold beer, a hot plate, and the freedom to be a little messy — Ganppajin-sae gets it.

Come with a friend.
Leave a little buzzed.
Wonder why your cheeks hurt from smiling so much.
